Fun facts about Vermont

Your nanny will enjoy the “Green Mountain State.”. Vermont’s beautiful mountains offer an abundance of adventure and joy. Vermont was first permanently settled by the British in 1724. Montpelier is Vermont’s capital and Burlington is the largest city. The rivers of Vermont surge either into the Connecticut River or into Lake Champlain. Vermont has a short summer and a humid, continental climate, with plenty of rainfall and a growing season that varies from 120 days in the Connecticut valley to 150 in the Lake Champlain area. If your nanny enjoys winter and skiing, the heavy snows will be a welcome sight. Every summer thousands of vacationers flock to Vermont for the picturesque mountains and the quaint New England villages. Climbers often attempt the many available peaks and hikers challenge the Long Trail that moves along the length of the state on the Green Mountain ridge. In winter, your nanny might be one of the thousands of skiers escaping to the slopes at Mad River Glen, Bromley, Stowe, Stratton, and other places. And don’t forget some of Vermont’s most delicious contributions – maple syrup, cheddar cheese and Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream! On the subject of Ben & Jerry's – bet your nanny didn't know that the ice cream company generously donates its ice cream waste to local Vermont farmers who, in turn, feed it to their hogs!
