Things to do with your nanny in Arlington, Texas

Dallas has a lot to offer – like taking in the Outdoor Sculpture Tour. Here your nanny can discover over 30 distinctive sculptures on the sidewalks of downtown Dallas. Along with pieces from the 19th century, there are contemporary works, including a painter capturing magnificent Dallas on canvas! Or there is the Art Garden on Flora Street where she can enjoy the “Sculpture Garden” at the base of the statuesque “Trammell Crow Center” in Dallas. There are more than 20 statues from the French masters in this peaceful setting that is mixed with flowing waters and stunning gardens. Although donations are accepted this is free to the public. In the Fountain Place on Ross Avenue at Field Street, your nanny will enjoy water dancing and leaping skyward at Downtown's “Fountain Place”. At the base of this dramatically sculpted office tower of green reflective glass, there is an oasis of colorful flowers, waterfalls, mega bubbler fountains and a central fountain. And finally, just a short trip down Mountain Creek Parkway is the Dallas Nature Center with 633 acres of preserved wilderness and mesquite prairie. The have 10 miles of hiking trails, native-plant nurseries, picnic area, nature programs and a visitors center.

The Dallas J. Erik Jonsson Central Library includes one of the original copies of the Declaration of Independence, printed in 1776. Also on display, is William Shakespeare's First Folio of Comedies, Histories & Tragedies. Visit Spring Creek Farm on East Lookout Drive at Plano Road and see how the famous Owens Country Sausage began. Tour a sausage museum that has a fully equipped kitchen, workshop, butchery and country store with articles and replicas dating back to the early 1900s. Roaming the ground you can see Belgian draft horses, miniature ponies and other animals. Dallas pays homage to one of its saddest moments in history when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated during his 1963 visit. Designed by a Kennedy family friend, the John F. Kennedy Memorial is an open-roofed, concrete walled monument that symbolizes an open tomb. Every once in a while you will find flowers/notes placed there. Nearby, the infamous School Book Depository and Grassy Knoll have been changed very little since that dark day in history. Visit the Farmers Branch Historical Park as it is home to several historic structures that range in time from the 1840's to the 1940's. Structures include log cabins and a 1930's gas station. Finally, located less than a mile north of Downtown Dallas, is Freedman's Cemetery, a pre-Civil War African-American burial ground in what use to be a small Dallas community formed by Blacks freed from slavery in the mid-1860s. This historic and state landmark memorial features larger-than-life-size figures cast in bronze by African American artist. So much to see!
