Things to do with your nanny in Minneapolis, Minnesota

The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is on 11 acres with more than 40 permanent works on view, making it the largest urban sculpture garden in the country. To keep the Garden experience continually fresh, temporary sculptures are continually updated. The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is located on Vineland Place, across from the Walker Art Center and Guthrie Theater. It offers visitors an opportunity to enjoy important works of art by leading American and Iinternational artists in a setting of plazas, walkways, and plantings. Tell your nanny to watch for displays such as the colossal Spoonbridge and Cherry Fountain or Standing Glass Fish located in the Palm Room of the Cowles Conservatory. This room features permanent and seasonal horticultural displays including, exotic orchids, palms, and other fragrant and beautiful species and on the northern boundary along the entire 300-foot length of the vine-covered stainless steelarbor are colorful plantings of perennial and annual flowers. Tell her not to forget the Irene Hixton Whitney Footbridge that connects the Sculpture Garden with Loring Park and downtown Minneapolis. Walk across the bridge to visit the Loring Park Garden and to find a assortment of cafes! The best thing? It is open everyday from 6 AM until midnight.

Have your nanny head over to 225 Third Avenue where after 20 years of sitting empty and unused, the historic 1899 Milwaukee Road Depot was brought back to life in 2000--with the enclosed, year-round Depot Figure Skating Rink. Located in half of a 600-foot-long renovated train shed, the rink has special lighting, a high-quality sound system for music, and glass walls that allow natural light and inquisitive passers-by to peer in. A couple of tips for your nanny – if she is a frequent skater have her consider a quarterly membership ($75). As for parking - the heated underground garage starts at $3 for the first hour. She might want to enter off of Fifth Ave. And afterwards if she is hungry…..walk over to Charley's Restaurant at the Courtyard for dinner. The food is supposed to be excellent!
