In 1981 the Rolling Stones played a surprise concert at the Lucky Dog Music Hall - with hundreds standing outside in the rain! Bands like “Danny Carbona’s Lil’ Black Book”, “Circus of the Shattered Monkey”, “Mullethead” and “Josh Cole & the Household” still play the Lucky Dog They even get a little Irish by bringing on stage the “Larkin’s Brigade” that do traditional Irish drinking music! Obviously this is some powerful music and must be over 21 to enjoy it properly! They sell their own Luck Dog T-Shirts and ever offer up some interesting recipes. Erick’s Glogg for one – 1 gallon of port wine, 1 gallon brandy, ½ gallon vodka, 3 cups sugar, cinnamon sticks, almonds, 10dried apricots raisins, dates and then some nutmeg and ground cinnamon to taste. Of course they never mention how many it serves – guess they think you’ll be hoarding it to yourself, its that good!
More than a century ago, the Worcester Center for Crafts provided women with the skills needed to make and sell handcrafts. Now, the center is a place of community for everyone who wishes to learn and enjoy the art of crafting. Is your nanny one of them? If so, they offer introductory, intermediate and advanced adult classes in ceramics, photography, glass, enameling, metals, jewelry, refinishing, weaving and fiber arts, woodworking and woodturning. So whether she is just starting out or has years of experience, the Craft Center is for her! The Center also hosts events throughout the year like the Festival of Crafts and Pottery Invitational Show & Sale. They have their own supply shop that has all the supplies you will ever need for the classes and the Gallery Gift Shop offers a unique display of contemporary and traditional crafts produced by artists from all over United States. On the off chance she creates a masterpiece - consignments are encouraged!
Worcester African Cultural Center is a historic building formerly used for manufacturing. At present there are few institutions where the general public, students, families, and tourists can engage in activities and events related to African art and culture. So let your nanny discover African Art that speaks to her from all areas across the African continent. She can fix her eyes on exhibit items of ceremonial masks, divination sculptures, decorative arts, musical instrument, jewelry and much more! The Gift Shop offers a wide variety of articles from Africa including books, magazines, jewelry, leather products, and other Culture items.
