No visit to the Pikes Peak region is complete without a trip to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. It is America’s only mountain zoo and it can provide an excellent day of relaxing entertainment for your nanny. With the mountains as your background scenery, you will find more than 750 animals of which 30 or more are endangered species. All of your favorites are here at this zoo. Monkeys and tigers and bears – oh my! Let’s not forget about being able to feed the giraffe heard, view the penguins and watch the hippos too. It is a chance of a life time to see a Siberian tiger, or a lowland gorilla and how about those African elephants! Along with the normal fare of zoo activities, you'll also find such attractions as a tram for easy travel through the zoo and the Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun, a monument dedicated to Will Rogers. Let’s not forget the special 1920's historic carousel either. A day of sure enjoyment for your nanny.
Can your nanny imagine sandstone rock formations against a backdrop of snow-capped Pikes Peak and clear, bright blue skies? That’s the view she will see when visiting the Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center. She won’t want to miss the total experience of a 12-minute theater presentation detailing the history and geology of the Park. Specializing in Colorado-made items, the center has three gift shops, with something for everyone...postcards, souvenirs including spoons and magnets....fine American Indian jewelry, porcelain sculptures, and their tasty fudge made in their own kitchen! They also offer a buffet option. Choose what you want then wander onto the terrace while you enjoy one of the most stunning views you’ve ever seen.. The FREE exhibit center is a doorway to Garden of the Gods city park where the geology, ecology and cultural history of the area spirals to life through hands-on-exhibits. You will find out how the Magpie builds its nest...view the replicated skull of a Camptosaurus, a dinosaur from the Jurassic Period, found right there in the park...and read about the American Indian tribes who wintered in our Park.
