Things to do with your nanny in Los Angeles, California

Los Angeles will bring out the movie star in all of us! One of the places your nanny should visit is the Hollywood Walk of Fame, where a game of ""find your favorite star"" is always fun! Although you will probably not see any real movie stars on the Boulevard, the “stars"" embedded in pink and charcoal terrazzo squares on the world's most famous sidewalk speak for themselves. These stars honor the celebrities who made Hollywood great - from the silent film stars of long a go to the modern action heroes of today. Does your nanny realize that these stars are not only for movie actors, but radio, TV, stage performers, directors, singers, songwriters, and other well-known show business personalities? The Walk of Fame used to stop at Sycamore, but in 1994 it expanded a block west to La Brea Avenue where ""stars"" have been added along with distinctive new street lights (resembling studio lights with ""barn-doors""). At the west end of the Walk of Fame, at the corner of Hollywood & La Brea, is a silver gazebo, topped by a spire reading ""Hollywood,"" and featuring sleek, life-size statues of four silver screen goddesses in evening gowns. In need of a nice wakl? Meander down to the Beverly Hills district where the art of window shopping along Rodeo Drive in the Golden Triangle was perfected. Saunter in boutiques and shops along Canon Drive and Beverly Drive. You nanny can spend hard earned cash by shopping at Saks Fifth Avenue along department store row on Wilshire Boulevard. Then, join a trolley ride tour or go to the Museum of Television and Radio and listen to an old show. Suggest a leisurely stroll in Beverly Gardens Park along Santa Monica and Wilshire Boulevards, where your nanny can take in a cultural or art event, or view the Cactus Garden or Rose Garden. Perhaps stop and listen to the Wilshire Electric Fountain. This is one park that is definitely worth buying comfortable walking shoes for!

Is your nanny interested in outer space – perhaps Mars? Mention the Jet Propulsion Laboratory managed for NASA by the California Institute of Technology. JPL is located in Pasadena, the Los Angeles suburb that is the home of the Rose Bowl and Rose Parade. Although JPL has been in the news for the Mars rovers it is also responsible for other robotic explorations of the solar system. Technologies have been developed by them and are often used in medicine, communications, safety and other applications world wide. They give public tours of its facilities and the admission is free but you must make reservations several weeks in advance. Let your nanny know that tours are given in rain, wind or hot weather, so be prepared by wearing appropriate clothes. There’s lot of walking and stair climbing as well. Tours take 2-2.5 hours.
