These duties are generally restricted to child care and the domestic tasks related to each child. I have a genuine love and respect for children and have the desire to make a positive contribution in the lives of my charges. I enjoy being around children and am responsive to their needs with my patience, sense of humor, honesty, trustworthiness, and reliability.
Additional Comments: The responsibilities of a nanny should be valued more as we devote ourselves to loving, teaching, and caring for other peoples' children. There is no job more important as we have the ability to love and nurture children that are not our own. This is not something that can be learned in the classroom, it is a natural calling and skill that also requires knowledge and a tremendous amount of hard work. We support their physical, intellectual, and emotional well-being, as well as all that is required to help raise a happy, healthy, and productive citizen. A base rate for a geographical area should be deemed as just that: a minimum payment for basic service, i.e. a babysitter that is only capable of custodial care for one child. When more is required for the support of a family, different hats that may be worn need to be considered: is someone that functions exactly like a parent required, or someone to work alongside a stay at home parent and capable of handling the children on their own when needed, or are they okay with someone that completely needs direction and instruction, household manager, live-in requirement (adds a tremendous amount of security and support for the parents), amount of hours/travel (consider burn out: let's be real, money helps long-term attitude, self-esteem, and ability to recharge - able to afford a well deserved vacation without children), tutor, cook, chauffeur, housekeeper, supervisor, referee, laundress, personal assistant, lifeguard, disciplinarian, communicator, planner, etc. I have four typed pages of what parents look for in a nanny and I can say that having worked in the corporate world, no other position comes close.
